Koni waited. Patience was a white man’s virtue, but to his people it was second nature. Sooner or later water wore stone. It was only a matter of time.
That was easy to tell himself, and harder to act on, especially when the night was cold, and their tent was gone from mold, and Matthias and he shared a single set of buffalo robes.
He had Seen. He knew what they would be to each other, but he Knew he had to wait until Matthias came to him, and the waiting was wearing on him, making him leave Matthias’ side late at night and crawl to the bushes to relieve his ache. This night was too cold, he knew, despite the burning warmth where he nested with Matthias. If he crawled out, he would lose his fire.
That would serve nothing but to wake Matthias, and his soldier needed his sleep. So Koni would stay there and torture himself. And be patient.
Matthias sighed softly, scooted closer to him, one strong arm landing on his waist. The spirits were testing him, truly. Koni turned minutely, keeping the impatient part of him from Matthias’ hand. A soft sound tickled his skin, the hand trailing over his belly, almost petting. Squeezing his eyes shut so tight he saw stars, Koni sucked in a deep breath, holding it and counting his heartbeat. The breaths against him seemed to match his heartbeat and suddenly he was counting instead the exhalations on his shoulder, each one a phantom kiss.
Matthias could not know how he affected Koni, could not possibly know, but each damp, hot puff made him throb, made his nipples as tight as if he had left their furs and ventured into the cold.
Koni moved again, surreptitiously rubbing back against Matthias before he snapped back to reality and moved away a scant inch.
The spirits taunted him though, Matthias following him, keeping them together.
Every time he moved, Matthias followed, and he wondered who Matthias dreamed he was, to be so warm and hard against him, for Matthias was as hard as he.
Matthias stretched, body sliding against his, so warm, so needy. “Mmm…”
“Ohh.” Nokoni moaned, trying not to rock, trying to be still. He had taken his visions and trials without twitching a muscle. Why could he not fight this need?
“Nokoni…” The sound was soft, whispered in a dream, but was definitely his name.
“Matthias.” It was drawn from him against his will, but such was his hope at hearing that he could not stop. Perhaps what Matthias did not See when he was awake, he could See in his dreams.
The hand on his belly pressed him back against Matthias’ heat. Unable to stop, Koni pressed back, feeling Matthias even through their clothes. So hot. Like a summer’s day. A low groan sounded, Matthias’ hips rocking, moving slowly.
Giving in fully, Koni rocked too, letting his hips turn back up so that Matthias’ hand fell between his legs. That hand pressed against him, heavy and strong, fingers sliding over him. He jumped, gasping loud, all of his muscles tight and hard like his shaft. After all of his waiting, Matthias’ hand felt better than anything ever had, the many who had helped him during his long, lonely time fading to nothing under the power of Matthias’ touch.
Matthias moaned, hips moving a little faster, a little harder.
There could be nothing better, unless he was able to touch as well, and Nokoni turned and wiggled, finally facing Matthias, just able to see that much loved face in the dark. And able to touch Matthias’ back, his shoulders, to nuzzle his neck.
“Oh.” Matthias gasped, hand moving to the small of his back, thumb sliding in circles.
The breath he shared with Matthias was sweet, warm, and Nokoni allowed himself one kiss. Just one, his lips moving gently on Matthias’.
Matthias’ eyes opened, meeting his with a mixture of need and fear and shock. “Nokoni…”
They should stop. They should, for Matthias might well kill him, or leave him, or who knew what. His hands still moved, though, and his mouth followed the curve of Matthias’ cheek, feeling rough stubble and the heat of Matthias’ blush. “Matthias.”
A low sound brushed his ear, husky and broken. Then the hand at his waist pulled him closer. “I…”
His hand found Matthias’ hardness, cupping it in his palm, desperate to keep Matthias from speaking of things that should not be spoken. “All is well, Matthias. I promise. I have Seen it.”
“Oh.” Matthias shuddered, hips pressing into his touch, lips parting. That hand at the base of his spine slid down, ghosting over the curve of his buttocks.
Kissing Matthias again was a pleasure so sharp he could hardly bear it, but he did, and pushed his tongue in deep, letting the spirits lead him where they would. Matthias groaned, shivering and pressing closer, tongue sliding against his own, tentative, but so hungry.
Yes. Yes they needed to touch, to feel. To be alive together. Koni pushed Matthias’ trousers aside and wrapped his hand around the heat he found there, feeling it burn his skin. A groan pressed into his mouth, Matthias’ hands trembling against him.
“Matthias. Yes.” Koni lost the ability for English somewhere around the time Matthias pushed a hand into his hair to pull and pet, murmuring instead in the tongue of his father.
Their kisses became wild, heated, Matthias’ tongue pressing into his lips, tasting him. Nokoni stroked and moved and Saw how good they would be together, how they would only be stronger. He loved Matthias with everything in him, drawing pleasure out of both of them, feeling it along his spine, in his balls.
Matthias rocked against him, those sky-blue eyes watching him, seeing him.
“My Matthias.” His. Only his. He would be patient until Matthias knew that as well. For now it was enough to hold, be held, touch. To feel Matthias hard under his fingers, to feel the slickness there.
“Nokoni.” His name sounded like a promise, a prayer.
It drew his pleasure out of him, his seed falling on Matthias’ belly and thighs, his mouth open on Matthias’ skin, breathing his name on the wind. Matthias’ heat answered his, pouring over his fingers.
Nokoni sighed, settling against Matthias, pulling him close. The light would bring much awkwardness he knew, but for now they could rest.
